Providing programmes that develop teams of experts into expert teams

Objectives for the WILD experience

Objectives for the WILD1 experience

  • To introduce the delegates to some of the basic theories behind the concepts of teamwork and leadership.
  • To enable delegates to apply those theories in a variety of challenging situations.
  • To enable delegates to develop an awareness of their own strengths and worth within a team.
  • To introduce delegates to the beauties and challenges of Dartmoor in the hope that one day they might return.

Objectives for the WILD2 experience

  • To introduce delegates to the concept of leader types.
  • To enable delegates to observe and attempt to classify their peers whilst engaged in a variety of challenging situations.
  • To enable delegates to develop a further awareness of their own strengths and worth within a team.
  • To remind delegates of the beauties and challenges of Dartmoor (and to encourage them to ask the question, "was this such a good idea?")

"Both the theory and practical skills of leadership definitely achieved their objectives in the weekend." - Undergraduate Cambridge

Physical Abilities

During the weekend delegates will be given the opportunity to participate in a number of physical activities, but will not be asked to do anything that is not within the capabilities of the averagely fit young man or woman.

It is not an objective of the programme to push a delegate beyond a level at which he / she is comfortable.

The physical aspects of the course are not there as a prime objective, but merely as a backdrop against which each delegate can participate at a level appropriate for him / her as an individual.

WILD Aims

WILD aims to promote greater self-management and interpersonal motivation with responsibility for team leadership.

We hope to make the individual aware of the needs of others, both in a working and social context, managerial, supervisory or educational - in fact any occupational direction.

Physical fitness need not be of a high standard, but each applicant must be willing to test themselves and appreciate a challenge.

Challenge

In a challenging working environment, where organisational and personal development is key factors in success, the need for innovative and effective training programmes are of prime importance.

WILD has developed a flexible leadership programme, which will address the groups or organisation's needs.

The West Country Initiative for Leadership and Development course approach aims to provide the opportunity to enhance undergraduate, graduate or management skills with an enjoyable and beneficial experience.

A challenging weekend bringing together our engineering undergraduates from all disciplines to develop their leadership, teamwork and problem solving skills in the unique setting of Dartmoor.
