ILD is set on south Dartmoor. Dartmoor is part of a mountain chain which was formed 300 million years ago.

Courses are based at the Dartmoor Training Centre, approximately two miles from the village of Princetown. The Centre is a small, modernised training facility sited amongst the bleak, rolling tors of the south moor.

The surface rock, eroded by weather, now reveals harder granite deposits and various mineral sources, such as tin, copper, lead which all add to the colourful unique landscape.

Today Dartmoor is no longer a mountainous region, but a gentle rolling upland with an average elevation of 1,200ft. Weather plays a tremendous part in the creation of the atmosphere and can change conditions in an instant.
